Wow - a fairly nice weekend...

...and a pretty cool storm too!

I felt so much better after doing that big entry and getting it all off my chest. Getting Moveable Type up and running at .co.uk was pretty sweet too - first time too - whoo-hoo!

Friday saw me going to Manchester in the glorious sunshine (not a common ocurance in Manchester), at least when the bus finally got going - a chinese couple were having trouble understanding the idea of the 'bus fare' - they paid the money, were given the tickets, but somethow there was a breakdown in communication as they stood arguing (he in cantonese, she in cantonese/half-english for nearly five minutes) for no apparent reason (was it too much? was it too little, were they trying to haggle? Who knows! Once there I decided to splurge on a new joypad (wireless from Saitek - thanks to a voucher!), some Strangers In Paradise collections (if you haven't read the comic, do so) and books at Waterstones - Fortune of War (the Patrick O'Brian I've been hunting for!), Terry Pratchett's The Amazing Maurice and his Educated Rodents (at last!) and Robert Rankin's Hollow Chocolate Bunnies of the Apocalypse (I was soooo tempted by his new hardback, Witches of Chiswick... it sounds hilarous - must be a tradition, an old charter or something!). On the way back I was sat reading Maurice when something sat next to me - I really have never seen anything so big that could get out of the house! She was enormous - when she sat down I actually got squeezed to the side! And what got me (apart from rolling waves of fat) is that she started to eat an oven bottom sandwich... then another. Then another and THEN a big bag of crisps! Thankfully the bus didn't have to labour all the way into Burnley with the extra weight, but it did have to strain through Edenfield with her aboard.

Jamius popped over on Saturday to pay for some books I ordered for his beloved wife (still waiting for Castles though!) and we chatted. And he played around with Supercar in Flight Simulator 2004... Saturday evening came and went. I spent much of it asleep to be honest. Nice two-part Dinotopia though (well, 3-part I suppose as it looks to continue into the finale next week - I might review this series, as it has been interesting...)

Sunday started with a thunderstorm. Which was quite decent - serious strikes and everything - the power even went off for a few seconds!!! The fun thing though was flying from Manchester to Burnley in real weather conditions in FS 2004... lots of thunder as I got near home! At Nicks the saga of Nick's PC continued with extra fans being fitted (and my idea of using those little screwy-nutty things that come with motherboards let them fit the fan to the back) but it worked well enough... though as it wasn't very hot (just clammy due to the storm) it may not have been a good test.

One thing was interesting - Andrew showed us some Flash sites he had been sent - he mentioned 'this is what you should be doing with I.T.'... if only he knew of my plans for the sites... redesigns, working out how to make a cool template for these MT pages... lots of anims (see previous entry!)...

Finally I come to today. Back at work, and under stress immediately. One woman, who I had only just seen the day before I went off, moaning that the loop system hadn't been fitted, and is there anything (other than a hearing aid) to go behind her ears to let her hear... I think she wants a cochlear implant, but we don't supply them... Other people also got on my bad side today by pestering me about how to do things on the computer system (to paraphrase Jamius (who is harrassing me just now on Messenger!), "Why is it that everytime something goes wrong on the County Council computer network, they come to me?")

Sigh. Still, tomorrow I get to go to a meeting that might not be too boring in Lancaster. Oh happy happy joy joy. At least I have two months of travelling expenses to come... and June 2003's is huge due to driving to Telford and back!!!
